Why Color Matters

Color affects everything. The right hues can:

  • Make your eyes appear brighter

  • Smooth skin tone and reduce shadows

  • Make you look more energized and approachable

  • Communicate mood and personality without words

The wrong colors? They can add years, create shadows, and drain the life from your face—even in a beautiful garment.

Understanding Seasons: The Classic Approach

The most intuitive way to find your colors is the seasonal system. It's not about your favorite season—it's about your skin's undertone, contrast, and natural coloring.

Spring: Warm, Light, Bright

Think fresh daffodils and peach blossoms. Springs glow in warm, clear colors like coral, turquoise, golden yellow, and warm camel.

Your colors if: You have golden or peachy undertones, light to medium hair, and you look best in warm brights rather than deep jewel tones.

Summer: Cool, Soft, Muted

Think misty mornings and seaside lavender. Summers shine in soft, cool colors like dusty rose, sage green, periwinkle, and heather gray.

Your colors if: You have pink or rosy undertones, ash-toned hair, and bold brights overwhelm you while soft pastels flatter.

Autumn: Warm, Rich, Earthy

Think falling leaves and harvest spices. Autumns come alive in deep, warm colors like olive, rust, mustard, and chocolate brown.

Your colors if: You have golden or olive undertones, rich brown or red hair tones, and you look amazing in earthy, grounded shades.

Winter: Cool, Clear, Dramatic

Think snow against evergreens and brilliant gems. Winters command attention in cool, bold colors like true red, royal blue, emerald, and black.

Your colors if: You have blue or pink undertones, high contrast between hair and skin, and you shine in jewel tones and stark contrasts.

The DIY Color Test

Not sure where you belong? Try this simple test at home:

The white paper test: Hold a piece of pure white paper next to your face in natural light. Does your skin look yellowish next to it (warm undertone) or pinkish/blueish (cool undertone)?

The jewelry test: Do you prefer gold jewelry (often warm) or silver (often cool)? If both look great, you may be neutral.

The vein test: Look at your wrist veins in daylight. Greenish = warm undertone. Bluish/purplish = cool undertone. Both = neutral.
